It's Sunday and I think we all deserve a good story.
This story does not take place on Earth. It does not take place in space.
This story takes place in the mind and should stay there.
This is an avant-garde story told in a modern noir perspective.
I am using the game Minecraft to give visual to my words.
I used my time two weeks ago to build this background, so please enjoy.
To start, it is highly recommended you play this song along while you read the remaining portion:
I am the mayor of my own world. This world is known as Mungtropolis. A couple of years ago, I escaped the clutches of suppressing figures and set off to create something beautiful.
After gaining the support of others, and losing some in the process, I finally helped in building the city I dreamed of for so long.
This city had everything. Everything from the general store to the city armory. I know what you are thinking. Why would a beautiful place need something like an armory. Well, in order to see the light you have to include the dark.
If something beautiful had nothing ugly to it, would it still be considered beautiful?
The simple civil buildings were soon in order and the first year we saw great progress. The bank saw great business. New clients each day and great wealth was stored deep into the city. The Fire Department, Courthouse and Police Headquarters was set up to assure everything would remain safe.
For entertainment, the residents could embrace in the nightlife of the city. We had a restaurant and even some adult entertainment, for those who had no shame in themselves.
The city grew their own food and had a steady water supply from the water tower. We managed our resources correctly and were never short on food or water. Along with the basic needs, the city had a communal storage unit where the residents of town could deposit and withdraw anything they wanted.
I built my house with my own hands and I designed it after a castle I saw when I was young. Everyone deserves to have rule from their own castle at some point in their life. At the time, I didn't know that would be my one and only time to reside in a castle.
Years passed and everything was perfect. It was beautiful.
According to the Greeks, the term utopia means "no place."
My city no longer existed. It was spaceless and timeless.
If the Greeks were to visit the city back in those days, they would find no place.
How naive is it to believe this could have lasted? This could actually carry on forever. You would think something outside of space and time would not fall eventually.
However, like all things, gravity and mass came into contact and brought space and time with it.
This is when the flood came and washed the city away. It killed all the citizens, except for me. It destroyed many buildings and left many hazards. You would be surprised by how many fires can actually start from water. You might be wondering why I was the only who survived that day. I, myself, cannot and may not be able to ever answer that question.
The city that was once not bound by time or space was no place at all.
If the Greeks were to visit the city then, they would find no place.
It took me a while to come to my senses and realize what had happened. I knew I could not stay here anymore and realized what I had to do.
I knew the only way to make myself happy would be to become the mayor of a new city. A city that would be my own. It would exist in my own world and there would be no opposition from anyone. The suppressing flood became a figure in the back of my mind.
That lasting moment became a distant memory and I set off to create something beautiful.
The End

Let me know what you think and tell me if I should do more of these.
It was happy... then sad... then happy again. Interesting story and pretty unique with Minecraft. At least I've never seen someone do that before. Great read !
ReplyDeleteLol, great story. Did you really set fire to your own building for this story? I hope not, so much time wasted in building stuff you'll burn down. Good stuff. and great song to go along with it all.

ReplyDeleteI really liked this story. Along with the music, it created a dissonant sense of belonging and segregation, almost as if you were trying to say all utopia's are a dystopian in a way. I'd definitely love to see more.
